Peta Jones Pellach is an educator with years of experience. She served as Director of Jewish Studies and Senior Master in Sydney’s two Modern Orthodox Jewish dayschools before making her career in Adult Education in 1997. Until Feb 2010, she was Director of Adult Education at The Shalom Institute, University of NSW, Sydney, where she was the educator-in-residence. She conducted classes on the weekly Torah portion, Jewish Civilization and Culture, Biblical Studies, Jewish Studies Teaching Method and Arab-Israeli Conflict, plus all four courses that comprise the Florence Melton Adult Education Program. Peta has been involved in inter-faith dialogue for over twenty years and has been awarded for her contribution. Her activities include the Women’s Interfaith Network, the (Australian) Uniting Church-Jewish Dialogue, the Jewish ‘conversation’ with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Australian National Dialogue of Christians, Muslims and Jews. In 2004 and 2006 she was a member of the Australian delegation to the Regional Dialogue on Interfaith Cooperation, held in Indonesia and the Philippines respectively. In 2009, she presented at the Parliament of World Religions in Melbourne. Peta is active in issues of (Jewish) Orthodoxy and Feminism. Her qualifications include BA (UNSW), MA in International Affairs (Columbia University, NY), Jerusalem Fellow (1989 – 1991). While in Jerusalem, she had the privilege of studying with Nehama Leibowitz, whose influence is reflected in Peta’s teaching. Peta began working with the Elijah Interfaith Institute in June 2010.
